About
We help curious people understand how things work, by building them.
LuminMinds is a free collection of interactive 3D assembly puzzles. You rebuild real objects part by part, starting with an everyday LED bulb, and every part explains what it does as you fit it. More models are on the way.
Why build things?
Reading that an LED bulb has a driver that turns mains electricity into a steady current is one thing. Having to fit that driver inside the body, find the capacitor and the coil that sit on it, and see the wires that run up to the LEDs, is another. Assembly makes you reason about structure: what holds what, what connects to what, and why the parts are shaped the way they are.
That is how engineers learn a machine and how anatomists learn the body, and it works just as well on a laptop or tablet.
What you will find
- Vehicles: Cars, engines and spacecraft, from the chassis up.
- Electronics: Circuit boards, motors and sensors, and how they talk.
- Biology: Organs, plants and molecules, inside and out.
- Space: Planets, moons and the machines we send to them.
- Chemistry: Atoms, molecules and the lab kit that reveals them.
Each model is split into stages, from the frame or core outward, and comes in easy, medium or hard builds depending on how many parts it has and how alike they look.
Who it is for
Students meeting a subject for the first time, hobbyists who want to know what is inside the things they love, and teachers looking for a hands-on activity that needs nothing but a browser.
How we make the models
Every model is built from reference material on real machines, organisms and spacecraft, and every part has a short note written to be accurate and easy to read. Sizes are sometimes exaggerated so small parts can be seen and picked up; the notes say when that is the case.
